Summer Scorcher Blog Tour - Week 2 - Beauty

AFTER MIDNIGHT

SummerScorcherBlogTour

Welcome to week two of the Summer Scorcher Blog Tour! Week one sure was hot, wasn’t it? And I’m not talking about just the weather we had here in Michigan, oh, no, I’m talking about Arial’s excerpts. Wowsa!

I have to admit that I had a hard time coming up with what to write about for this post. Right from the moment I was invited to join the tour I knew what I wanted to share with you — a SCORCHING HOT peak at my upcoming contemporary romance After Midnight — but a topic of conversation to open with? That was difficult for me. But alas, I think I found my topic…

Beauty.

I was surfing the internet a few weeks ago and came across an article that stated only 2% of women in the world today believe that they are beautiful. Let me tell you, my mouth fell open — literally fell open — as I read that figure again. Two. Percent.

Seriously? This breaks my heart. I mean, what makes a woman beautiful? Is beauty in the symmetry of a woman’s face? Her ‘perfect’ 36/24/36 figure? Or is it something else entirely? Is beauty something that can only be measured by physical perfection, or does ones soul play a role?

What makes us doubt ourselves, our ability to be termed beautiful? Is it upbringing? Did you have a neighbor/brother/cousin who called you ugly, fat, or any other degrading name? No? Then let me ask you this, do you count yourself with that 2 percent? Or are you one of the majority — the 98 percent who don’t believe themselves beautiful?

Right about now you’re probably asking yourself what all this has to do with a SCORCHING HOT BLOG TOUR? Well I’ll tell you…

But only if you visit Amie Louellen’s blog.

Thanks, Darlene! I just revamped the whole thing. (with the help of Arial, who designed my header for me.)

Great post on beauty, Sarah. Two percent is a surprising number, I hope it gets higher as women embrace their personal inner and out beauty. I know I have seen many beautiful women out there. Speaking of beautiful, the cover ofr your book is :-)

Thanks, Na. I'm totally in love with the cover to After Midnight and have been since the day it was sent to me.

I, too, wish people could see the beauty in themselves. There's just so much out there.

Looks like a great book. I used to feel like the 98%, by the way, but have learned its more than skin deep that makes you beautiful. Now I'm in the 2% - most days.

Thanks so much, Linda!! And good for you being in the 2%!!!

Sarah, I would love a copy of After Midnight. But you knew that *grin*

I can certainly say that growng up I did not think I was perfect or a beauty. It's only now in my 40's I can say I was "cute." Lol. There's a difference between cute and pretty, mind you. I didn't play up to my cuteness in school but I strive to do that now.

Steph-

I never thought I was a beauty growing up either. Now I look back and wonder why I was so hard on myself.

I can't believe how low that number is, although, there have been times in my life where I felt ugly because I was too fat, too brunette, too.., etc. I think a lot comes from how we were treated and talked to when we were young, as well as whether we had significant others or even strangers/bullies tell us weren't pretty enough. My father made a careless comment to my sister when she was an early teen about her weight and it haunted her for not just years, but decades, until she had built her self-esteem up enough where she didn't care what he said or any other person.
I think it comes down to our slef-worth and self-esteem - doesn't it always? Unfortunately, society still has this ridiculous notion of what beauty is, for example, that wafer-thin models are the epitome of beauty and that's why most clothing designers make women's clothing as if they were little, flat-chested, skinny prepubescent boys. I have yet to ask 1 man if they agree with this and they all have said that they want a woman who, well, looks like a woman, not their little brother.
Yet, the myth still prevails. OK. I'll stop. As you can see I get very heated about this issue and the fact that 98% of women believe this, is just heart-breaking!
Great topic, Sarah.

Why do women do that? Allow society to tell us what beautiful is and to hell with the 98% of the female population that doesn't fit into their definition? I just don't get it. (sadly, I'm most likely one who has allowed it to shape my thoughts, though) Well, I used to.
A lot of women I know have realized they were/are too hard on themselves growing up and that they ARE beautiful. Sadly though, not enough. Not if the statistics in that article are even close to accurate. Heartbreaking.
Thanks for stopping by! And stay passionate about this subject! Maybe together we can change the current thinking and show women all over the world just how beautiful we are.

Wow that was a really surprising! I didnt only that only 2% of women think they are beautiful! I used to be in the 98% but now, thanks to my loving and wonderful fiance I do consider myself beautiful. But I will say that only one nasty comment made back in elementary school is why I felt ugly until I met my honey....

People have the power to do so much damage with a few ill thought words, don't they? I'm glad your fiance has brought you back to where you should be - knowing just how beautiful you are! Thanks for stopping by!
