Open Promo for Authors

Welcome to Open Promo for Authors!  I admit to being a tad bit burned out by my After Midnight Blog Tour, so I've decided to open the floor (or blog post as the case may be) and allow you, my fellow romance authors, a chance to tell me about your book. I'd like to do this once a month, and feature the next month's releases, but for today I'm open to any romance book that is already released or coming soon.

I do have a few pesky rules though:

  • The book has to be a romance. I don't care what genre romance, but my readership is romance so we're going to give them what they love.
  •  You can post for yourself or you can post about a fabulous new book you just read and think we should all run out and buy.
  • If you include a short excerpt in the post, please include a rating AT THE BEGINNING of the post. Let's be thoughtful of those readers who are uncomfortable with some heat levels.
  • Also, I reserve the right to delete a post if it promotes objectionable content. (incest, rape, etc.)
Simple enough, right? Post away!

Hello Sarah,

Thank you for this opportunity! I'll tell you about my September release, Shattered, a WW1- era romance. To keep it short and sweet, I'll give you the cover blurb:

Liam Cochrane no longer belongs. He lost his youth and his brother on the battlefields of Europe. Now he’s home in Halifax, Nova Scotia, trying to dull his pain with liquor and the occasional willing woman. He’s become a stranger in the North End neighbourhood where he grew up.

Alice O’Neill has never belonged. Able to read music, but not words, she dreams of teaching piano – and of Liam, who has held her heart for years and never known. But Liam has shadowy ties in England that he’s revealed to no one, and in that fall of 1917, Halifax is on a collision course with fate. On December 6, a horrific accident of war will devastate the city’s North End. What will be left for Liam and Alice when their world is shattered?

Shattered has 8 reviews with an average of 5 stars on Amazon. For a limited time,it's only $0.99. Here's the link:

Hi Sarah. I'm very pleased to be able to add my first ever contemporary romance release of Aug 2011, Monogamy Twist. Set mainly in Yorkshire, England, my sexy hero needs quite a bit of help from my very capable heroine! The blurb:
Luke Salieri thought he'd seen everything. But when he inherits a dilapidated English estate from a woman he's never heard of—and with quirky conditions besides—it’s a mystery he wants resolved immediately. There must be a woman out there who can meet his needs. But how far will he have to go to persuade her? Lucrative employment for a whole year? The job of researching the old house and its fantastic contents is enticing – but Rhia Ashton can’t see herself living with gorgeous Luke Salieri and not wanting his body as well. Can she live and sleep with him for a whole year and then walk away? Rhia has her own ideas about what will make it worth her while.

Hi Sarah and thanks so much!

I have a Halloween-themed historical romance releasing tomorrow!

Here's the blurb: Where pumpkins and midnight meet that’s where love can be found.

Audrey Harper wants nothing more than to experience life before she consigns herself to taking care of everyone else in her family. A Halloween masquerade fits the bill. As a French courtesan she intends to lure an unsuspecting man into her bed, find a few moments of bliss and leave before the clock strikes midnight.

Justin Redding’s life as a junior accountant is as far from exciting as he can get. As a result, he supplements his income and thirst for adventure by stealing jewelry from the area’s wealthy upper crust. He’s admired Audrey from afar and convincing her father that he’s good enough is uppermost in his mind. Disguising himself as a masked avenger is the only way to win her heart.

What happens next is a heady jaunt through a crowded 1880s ballroom, a shadowy pumpkin patch and perfumed sheets. But unraveling lies and secret identities might trap the pair in a sticky web, dissolving the moonlit love affair before love’s bloom can take root.

Sarah - Thank you for this opportunity.

Available Now: My paranormal romance novella, Healer's Fate

Blurb:

Corliss Rumdone hides behind her status as Healer to avoid the normal wolf pack hierarchical challenges. A forced mating changes the course of her life. Instead of Raymond, the beta wolf selected for her, she mates with Liam—her best friend and heir to the Alpha pair.

Liam whisks them away to a shifter retreat so they can allow the mating bond to settle in private. But interference from those seeking power and two terminal children arouse past hurts and challenge their new relationship. Even their home is not the haven it should be as Liam must watch Corliss fight for the right to stay his mate. For one healer, death becomes a weapon to balance life.

Excerpt rating: PG
Book Rating: Spicy

Liam couldn’t watch the ceremony that would mate Corliss to someone else. He could’ve challenged for her, but that meant fighting his father—the ruling wolf, who was neither a tyrant nor senile. Both of them in their prime, a fight would have ended in one of their deaths, and he couldn’t justify the loss of life.

Not even for her. Unable to keep control of his wolf, Liam let the animal free to seek solace in the forest. Except every tree, every scent roused memories of her, and the wolf circled back towards the clearing, towards the woman who should be his.

Stark quiet alerted him to trouble as the wolf crept along the edge of the grass. People were missing and those who remained stood as if waiting for the ceremony to start. He circled around to the front to get a better view, hiding in the shadows so as not to alert anyone. Raymond was unaccounted for. Corliss stood stiff-backed, facing away from the audience.

Her caramel-colored hair was piled atop her head, darkened to walnut in the moonlight. Shadows hid her sea-green eyes and emphasized
her high cheekbones. She appeared cold, harsh, and removed from events going on around her. Yet he knew her to be warm and caring, often too
caring.

Giving to others more of her personal energy through her healing powers than she should. As her friend, he could offer support, but he couldn’t push too hard for her to rest, or she’d rip out his throat.

He chuffed. The dark blue specks in her eyes glowed when she was angry. That spark had been missing from her eyes for days. He repressed a
growl as Corliss bit the inside of her cheek. Before the wind shifted, he backed away. She wouldn’t appreciate someone seeing her close to tears.

The wolf wanted to rip a hole in Raymond’s belly, but even the animals had rules for a challenge. He trotted to a cache of clothes. Only the man could help her now.

Hey Sarah! Thanks for a great opportunity. I'm just spreading the woord that Brodie's Bride received 5 cups fro Coffeetime Romance! I'm so excited.
Here's the g/pg rated blurb--

Blurb--Waking up next to a beautiful golden-haired stranger isn’t the worst thing that has ever happened to Brodie Harper, but staying in a fake marriage in order to gain a new construction contract could very well be.

Savanna Morgan just wanted a way out of an engagement to a man she didn’t love. Marrying Brodie seemed liked the perfect answer at the time. Less perfect the next morning when she finds herself disowned by her father and flat broke. Now she must make it through the weekend. Monday they can get it all annulled and forget it ever happened.

The real problem may be keeping their hands off each other until then.

And the link to read the wondermous review--

Hi Sarah~
Thanks for letting us post here!
My story, RAFE'S REDEMPTION, is an erotic western historical. Here is the the blurb.
Thanks again!
***
He rode into town to buy supplies, not a woman.

For hunted recluse Rafe McBride, the raven-haired beauty on the auction block is exactly what he doesn't need. A dependent woman will be another clue his vengeful stepbrother can use to find and kill him. But Rafe's conscience won't let him leave another innocent's virginity to the riff-raff bidding. He buys her, promising to return her to St. Louis untouched. He only prays the impending blizzard holds off before her sultry beauty breaks his willpower.

She wanted freedom, not a lover.

Whisked to the auction block by her devious, gambling cousin, and then sold into the arms of a gorgeous stranger, outspoken artist Maggie Monroe isn't about to go meekly. Especially when the rugged mountain man looks like sin and danger rolled into one. But a blizzard and temptation thrust them together, and Maggie yearns to explore her smoldering passion for Rafe.

But when the snow clears, will the danger and secrets that surround Rafe and Maggie tear them apart?

Sarah, aren't you the sweetest thing to open your blog up to all us wild n crazy romance writers. Heaven only knows what we're liable to say...

First off, let me suggest a book to your readers if they enjoy contemporary cowboys--"Knight in Cowboy Boots" by Suzie Quint. I love her writing style.

Guess you could say I love cowboys, historical or contemporary. My debut novel, "Storm's Interlude", is a contemporary cstory set on a ranch in Texas. According to Night Owl Reviews, who gave it a 5-Star rating, it is "...sweet romance, heartfelt feelings, a whole lot of sexual tension, and its own share of on-edge suspense." You can read more reviews on Amazon at http://amzn.to/pkkcLq

I'm doing the edits on a short story for the Honky Tonk Hearts series. Yup, more cowboys. Here's the blurb for "Those Violet Eyes" due out next year:

Evie Caldwell hoards every penny for her escape from her servitude life created by a worthless brother and the endless work on a ranch that will never be hers. The last thing she wants is a muscled man with a macho Marine attitude complicating her life. But, oh, how that man can make her insides do a twitchy thing.

Wounded vet, Win Fairchild, returns to Texas to heal, find a piece of his soul and open a ranch for amputee children. Finding someone to love was not on his agenda. Nor was dealing with a wildcat, until she captures his heart with those violet eyes.

But now that he knows what he wants, can Win convince Evie to stay in Texas—and his bed?

I'd like to share my November 1 release:

NORTH OF NEED

Her tears called a powerful snow god to life, but only her love can grant the humanity he craves...

Desperate to escape agonizing memories of Christmas past, twenty-nine-year-old widow Megan Snow builds a snow family outside the mountain cabin she once shared with her husband, realizing too late that she's recreated the very thing she'll never have.

Called to life by Megan's tears, snow god Owen Winters appears unconscious on her doorstep in the midst of a raging blizzard. As she nurses him to health, Owen finds unexpected solace in her company and unimagined pleasure in the warmth of her body, and vows to win her heart for a chance at humanity.

Megan is drawn to Owen's mismatched eyes, otherworldly masculinity, and enthusiasm for the littlest things. But this Christmas miracle comes with an expiration--before the snow melts and the temperature rises, Megan must let go of her widow's grief and learn to trust love again, or she'll lose Owen forever.

Thanks, Sarah, for letting me share. Mine will probably get lost since it's at the end, but my novel Shadow Keeper is a paranormal YA romance. The cover blup is:
Brendon Alexander was a normal high school kid until his dead grandfather appeared in the flames of a fire and bestowed upon him the gift of Demon Fighter.

Lisa Stratton, the new girl at school, has a few secrets of her own—her father is possessed by a demon. She recognizes the scar on Brendon’s chest that brands him as a protected one, but she must discover if he has the ability to cleanse the evil from her father’s body.

The closer Brendon gets to Lisa, the more he uncovers buried secrets from the past. Not hers, but his—his father’s death and the creature that killed him, and the legacy handed down to him from beyond the grave. Burning curiosity and frightening nightmares thrust Brendon deeper into his past while Lisa urges him forward into danger—and into his destiny.

Thanks for the invite Sarah! To put everyone in the Halloween mood here's a spooky excerpt from my regency romance, PRICELESS DECEPTION.

Madeline sat up in a cold sweat.
The dream was so vivid, so raw, in her heart she knew it hadn’t been a dream at all. She had just seen her mother’s death.
She felt the hard weight of the diamond beneath her pillow, checking to make sure it had not vanished from her side. She threw off the bedcovers and walked to the window, hoping the night air would help wash away the remnants of her dream. The terror in her mother’s face, a fiercely glowing diamond scalding her palm—the images still hovered around the edges of Madeline’s mind.
“Madeline.” She gasped at the voice, stumbling away from the window as the sound came closer. “You’ve seen the truth now.” The rasping voice, the sharp, worm-filled cough… there was no doubt.
“Madeline.” She was on her knees, eyes squeezed shut, too terrified to look any closer. He was here, no longer underground in the dirt but here, in her room, watching her from the window. “It killed your mother. You must destroy it.”
“It’s only a diamond, Papa. It cannot hurt me.” She choked as the words tumbled from her mouth. Colin’s words.
“You swore a vow. IT MUST BE DONE!”
She shrieked when the voice swept past her head, ruffling her hair, as the rattling grew closer and closer…My daughter…
“I’ll do it, I’ll do it, please don’t come any closer!” She shrank down to the floor, screaming now. This wasn’t a dream. Someone would come, Helena would hear the screams and run in—
Madeline awoke in her bed.
It was still dark outside. She was shaking, gasping, scrambling for the diamond that no longer brought her comfort. After long minutes had passed, her eyes searching every corner of the dim room, she convinced herself it had been only a dream. She pulled the diamond from beneath her pillow and, rolling it up in an old dress, threw it into her trunk. She must end this, the fears, the hiding, these torturous dreams.
Tomorrow. She would destroy it tomorrow.
